It was just one of those days where I had nothing planned but still had a desire to do more than stare at the walls of our dorm rooms.  So I began by making the 52-kilometer trip to the German Wal-Mart.  Of course at 150 miles per hour this was but a few minutes in the drivers seat plus a few more navigating the overcrowded and under sized parking lot of my destination.  And yes, I said Wal-Mart.  It may not sound as romantic as Paris or as exciting as Italy but after six plus months on a small base in nowhere land it was just about as close as I could get to the good ole’ US of A.

An hour later and a hundred Euros poorer I decided to head back to Sembach.  A short distance up the A6, somewhere between third and fourth gear I spotted the Worms sign.  That’s pronounced Vurms, the W is pronounced as a V in the German language.  Anyway, I decided to see if there were any worms in worms and low and behold it turned out to be quite the tourist attraction.  I got lucky and found a fairly safe and roomy parking spot adjacent to the local Cathedral.  From here I took a two hour walk which included to local historical sites, a very nice coffee shop where I enjoyed a German milk shake and desert, and a few clothing stores to satisfy the desire to shop.

All in all it was a really nice way to spend a Saturday.  And aside from a hundred Euros in souvenirs from Wal-Mart and a few more for clothes in Worms I got off pretty light.  One might even say the daily per diem covered this one.  ;-)
